WDG6G - India's Most Powerful Diesel Locomotive with Petroleum BTPN Tanker Train avoids BIRD STRIKE

Earlier, the locomotive division of GE was under 'GE Rail'; but it was then sold to Wabtec on February 25, 2019. Thus, 'GE Rail' was renamed as 'GE Transportation', which is now a subsidiary of Wabtec.

These 6000 hp WDG6G diesel locomotives are also known as ES57ACi. This is the single-cab higher horse power cousin of GE Transportation's ES43ACmi class which is of 4500 hp. They come under the umbrella of famous GE's Evolution Series (GeVo) locomotives. The ES57ACi class is a freighter locomotive consisting a 4-stroke, V-16 cylinder, turbocharged GeVo engine. The first few locomotives were manufactured in the GE Transportation's Erie Plant, Pennsylvania, USA. Now, the production of these locomotives are taking place in the Diesel Locomotive Factory (DLF), Marhowra in Bihar which is a joint venture between Indian Railways and GE Transportation.

This is the most powerful diesel locomotive of Indian Railways, its next competitor is WDG5, which is of 5500 hp. WDG5 is an EMD locomotive also known as EMD GT50AC.
