My home here at Fotherdale is teeming with wildlife. But it wasn’t always like this… 20 years ago, there weren’t even any barn owls in the area! Over the years, I’ve created habitats and nest sites, released rescued animals and I even put out food for wildlife too.

REHABILITATING ANIMALS
Every year people bring in lost or injured animals for me to look after and over the years I've successfully released rescued badgers, weasels, stoats, and even kestrels here at Fotherdale. I work with wildlife expert Jean Thorpe helping these animals in need and getting them ready for release back into the wild

TELLING THEIR STORIES
Back in 2017 I pioneered a method for restoring orphaned barn owlets to the wild. I put four chicks in with another clutch of four chicks, on the basis that barn owls can’t count… this pair raised an eight chicks super brood that grew to be strong independent owls . Then there’s Finn, rescued from a farm in Scarborough in 2019. He was looked after then released here at Fotherdale. Now he’s paired up with resident owl Gylfie and in August their two chicks, Nutmeg and Thyme, successfully fledged. BUILDING HABITATS
Over the years I’ve built and put up more than 200 nest boxes around the Yorkshire Wolds. These have been a great success, encouraging a wide range of birds to live, breed and thrive here.
In November 2020, I started one of my most ambitious projects yet, called Ash Wood. I fitted this woodland with a variety of nest boxes, and even a wildlife pond! This was a massive task, but the rewards have been fantastic, as you can see on the Ash Wood live stream. https://youtu.be/kwmskqJqaAM

FOOD SUPPORT
Every day I put supplementary food out for a range of species. During harsher winters or severe droughts I increase these offerings to boost their chances of survival.

I do all I can to give the wildlife in the area the best chance at survival and I'm happy I get to share my work with all of you too.

I am a British wildlife artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire, UK. I build ideal habitats to encourage wildlife into my garden and use nest cams to study their behaviour. These studies inform my paintings. I share the best of my video research on this channel for free. If you would like to support my work please consider a small donation here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=A52ZHAMJZC3J4

Or of course you may like to purchase my artwork which you will find on my website: https://www.robertefuller.com. Many of the paintings are portraits of the creatures you watch here!
